Art Spectrum Whiting
Art Spectrum Whiting is a white chalk (Calcium Carbonate) in powder form, that has a number of uses in both painting and also etching. It can be used in making gesso or for extending oil paints. Whiting can also be used as a filler for water-based paints and you can use with ammonia for degreasing and preparing zinc plates intaglio plates prior to etching and can be used to stiffen etching inks if desired.
Art Spectrum Whiting will provide tooth when used in the making of traditional grounds for oil painting or the production of Artists’ soft pastels. When using Whiting to make your own gesso, the following ratios are generally recommended: 25% whiting, 25% rabbit skin glue and 50% water.
