Derivan Matisse Polymer Gloss Varnish
Derivan Matisse Polymer Gloss Varnish can be used both as a gloss finishing varnish or as a glossy additive to your paint. The varnish can also be used as a protective film when applied to your artwork once dry.
- It can be mixed in with your colours or applied afterwards.
- When mixed with your colours, it will give them an oil paint or shiny enamel appearance.
- When used as a finished varnish, it will protect your work with a clear, tack free film.
- There is 250 mL of varnish in this container.
Acrylics dry very fast so care should be taken to apply varnish pre-diluted with water (as per directions on labels). Matisse Polymer Gloss Varnish applied in very thick layers on a hot day could trap moisture, leaving a cloudy film that would be very hard to correct. All Derivan painting mediums are able to mix together – Polymer Gloss Varnish will intermix with Spreader Medium to give a glossy glaze effect (however, do not mix turps varnishes with other mediums). Painters are advised to use some discretion in pre-determining their choice of mediums to avoid unwanted effects.
Pictures treated with Polymer Gloss will appear to look like work done with oil paints or shiny enamel. Derivan Matisse Polymer Varnish can be mixed with just about any acrylic paint.
It is water-based and may appear slightly milky whilst wet. This is an optical effect caused by light refraction of acrylic particles suspended within the water-based film. The effect disappears when the film is dry.
