About
Dip pens have a simple metal nib, usually without an ink reservoir, that you can use with any artist or fountain pen ink. They are popular for hand lettering and drawing with inks that are not suitable for fountain pens. If you look at the nib shape, you can work out what type of marks it can make. They were generally used before the development of fountain pens in the later 19th century, and are now mainly used in illustration, calligraphy, and comics. Dip pens allow the use of carbon based, acrylic inks and gouache.
